Black Achievement Awards:
This annual event honors African-American students from kindergarten through high school for their academic achievement and extracurricular activities. Students attending public and private schools in Santa Barbara, Goleta and Carpinteria are eligible to receive awards. The organization solicits the assistance of school principals/headmasters in nominating students for various award categories. Students are the recipients of financial awards, plaques, trophies and certificates. The event attracts hundreds of youth and their families; this year the EYC opted for a family style BBQ and cookout to promote fellowship, community and family togetherness. The informal style of the event, which included face-painting, games and a character artist, allowed both the EYC and the families to focus on the tremendous efforts of this year’s recipients.
