PUTTING IT BACK |
Jazz Band and Music Club New for 2008, the Jazz Club is designed to provide 5th and 6th grade students increased instruction in music. Led by a skilled Jazz musician and teacher, the Jazz Club is open to any student who currently plays an instrument and would like to expand upon their talents. Members will have the opportunity to play solo and ensemble pieces at various EYC events! The Endowment for Youth Committee, or EYC is proud to bring about this exciting new program, open to 5th and 6th grade students in Santa Barbara who are enrolled, or going to be enrolled in music classes. This after-school club will meet on a once-weekly basis to provide high quality instruction in jazz music with Latin flavor. The club will be lead and coordinated by noted Jazz musician and teacher, Ike Jenkins. Students will have access to saxophone, trumpet, guitar, drums and other instruments, provided by the EYC on a first come, first served basis. This opportunity is provided to students free of charge! In addition, students will have the opportunity to be mentored and guided by other local musicians from high school, colleges and the community. In addition to the instrumental component, the EYC is working on establishing a singing club that will perform alongside the jazz musicians at concerts and other special events! The club is forming and is limited to the first 20 students who register. To register, or to express interest in a singing club, please call the Endowment for Youth Committee office at 805-730-3347. |
